Visit Sønderborg and Dybbøl together

Sønderborg makes a useful base for visiting Dybbøl Banke. The town, castle, Als and coast offer different ways to explore Southern Jutland: history, culture, nature and activities with children. Dybbøl is this guide's starting point; places further away are suggestions for separate outings. [S74]

Find the experience you want

What can you see in Sønderborg in one day?

Make Dybbøl Mill and a few stops at the redoubts your main visit. Add either Sønderborg Castle or a short harbour walk. Three major attractions may be too much if you also want time for travel, meals and breaks. Read the visitor guide and check each operator's opening information for your day.

The Dybbøl Banke History Centre is closed for regular visits until 31 May 2027. Booked programmes have separate conditions; see the current History Centre information. Do not plan ordinary admission as a confirmed stop during this period. [S04]

Walks, nature and views

Use the Dybbøl Banke map for short walks starting at the mill, History Centre or hotel. For a longer coastal outing, read about Gendarmstien. Town walks and longer excursions differ in distance and surface; choose your return transport and breaks before setting off.

Guides in Danish, German and English

Every place guide is available in three languages. The language buttons open the corresponding page, so you can read about the same place in your preferred language. The guide's search also finds the Sønderborg overview when you type Sonderborg or Soenderborg.

Spending several days in the area

Spread a town day, a day at Dybbøl and a longer outing across your stay. Families can pair a short history visit with an activity at a different pace; adults can spend more time at castles, museums or on foot. The Hotel Sønderborg Kaserne guide includes the hotel's direct booking link.
