Give the area more time
An overnight stay lets you combine Dybbøl Banke with Sønderborg’s harbour, town and castle. Spend part of the day at the mill and in the landscape, then explore town history or walk beside the water. This is a suggested itinerary; access and opening hours are set by each operator.
From barracks to hotel
Hotel Sønderborg Kaserne occupies the former barracks beside Alssund. The building was renovated in winter 2019 and now houses a hotel. Its own presentation describes suites with a living area, bedroom and bathroom; many have balconies. Check the particular room category when booking. [S54]
Book directly
The booking button below takes you to the hotel’s own booking service. Select dates and guest numbers to see available rooms, prices and terms. Check breakfast, parking and other requirements for your particular stay. The booking service is separate from this guide. [S54]
An idea for two days
- Day 1: Dybbøl Mill, redoubts and views. Finish with a walk by Sønderborg’s harbour.
- Day 2: Sønderborg Castle and a shorter coastal walk or a suitable section of Gendarmstien.
- After reopening: make the History Centre a separate part of your visit. Booked tours may offer other options during the closure. [S04] [S52] [S03]
