What is open now?

The History Centre is closed for regular visits from 7 September 2026 to 31 May 2027. Guided tours and school visits can be booked. Dybbøl Mill has its own season until 31 October 2026. Public landscape paths and memorials have different arrangements from ticketed exhibitions. Follow signs and any temporary changes. [S04]

Parking and arrival

Naturstyrelsen lists parking by the mill, History Centre, bridgehead and Sundgade near Prussian Redoubt 6. Toilets are located at the large car park opposite the mill. Check toilet opening and parking conditions locally. Current bus connections are available through Rejseplanen. [S30]

Surfaces and accessibility

Paved connections in the central area are easier to use than grass, slopes and coastal paths. Some gradients exceed ten per cent. The whole area is therefore not a uniformly accessible route for wheelchairs, walking aids or pushchairs. Choose specific stops and ask about entrances and levels. [S30] [S46]

Food, breaks and equipment

Consider bringing a picnic. The operator describes tables and a limited range of drinks and ice cream. Do not assume a full restaurant or service during the centre’s closure. Bring water, protection from the wind and footwear suited to the ground. [S48]

Dogs and consideration

Dogs should be on leads under the area’s and Gendarmstien’s guidance. Keep your distance from grazing animals and be considerate at graves. Access to paths does not permit entry to private gardens, farmyards or buildings. [S30] [S41] [S45]

Plan around your interests

  • Short visit: the mill area, views and a nearby memorial.
  • Half a day: the mill, redoubts and a landscape break.
  • Full day: combine Dybbøl with Sønderborg town and castle.
  • Walking day: the Gendarmstien coastal route with a planned detour up to Dybbøl.

These are suggestions for a visit, not measured routes. Opening and access determine what can be combined on the day.
