Current status: renovation in 2026-2027

The History Centre is closed for regular visits from 7 September 2026 through 31 May 2027. Reopening is planned for 1 June 2027. Its buildings and interpretation facilities are being renovated and developed. [S04]

Guided tours and educational programmes are available by prior arrangement during the closure, including on the battlefield and in the reconstructed redoubt and soldiers’ camp. All such visits must be booked in advance. Check the operator’s current programme. [S04]

A centre beside the historic site

The centre opened on 18 April 1992. It interprets a place significant to both Danes and Germans. Its architecture and later reconstructions form part of the site’s more recent history. [S22] [S35]

The reconstructions help visitors understand the soldiers’ surroundings. They should be distinguished from original earthworks and surviving battlefield remains. A reconstruction is an interpretation of the past; the landscape itself also contains later historical layers. [S22]

With children or a group

Prepare with a few questions: why was fighting concentrated here? How did soldiers live? What happened to local people? Everyday life and the landscape can offer younger children an accessible starting point.

Tickets and contact

The published regular prices are DKK 140 for adults and DKK 80 for children aged 5-15. These do not imply regular admission during the closure. Check the terms for booked tours and prices after reopening. [S47]
